Peter Csonka wins Rock Island World Cup

August 29, 2012 12:57

The first World cup in 2012 took place on the famous Rock Island play hole. This hole is probably the most difficult one from all other World Cup holes. For this competition we only had two training days with lots of people in the eddy. For a single training run you had to wait at least 40 minutes. I mean on the one hand it's nice because you can have chats during your waiting time but on the other hand it's not very comfortable. Especially when you are under pressure to stomp some moves before you get flushed out. At the beginning I was really struggling with my moves and definitely I have not been in a good mood.

The first day of competition was very hard, mens started first. So we have been waiting all day long in the sun what made us really tired. After qualification Nina ended up 4th and I on 8th place. Unfortunately Nina got sick so she was not able to train anymore. Quarter-finals and semi-finals took place the next day.

I was pretty lucky and reached the finals on a 2nd place. And so did Nina. I definitely had a good feeling but it wasn't over yet and we still had the finals to master. Nina started first. She had good rides and ended up on a good 2nd place after a well performing Emily Jackson.

Men category was really strong. Eric Jackson ended up on place five. On 4th place was Adam Chappel. Joaquim Fontane placed 3rd and Dane Jackson 2nd with an unbelievable performance. And last but not least: I got first. I was just really lucky because all the athletes were in great shape and each of us could have won the competition. Later on there was the ceremony and a great party.
Now we are at the Pigeon River where the second World Cup will take place soon. Stay tuned for more - hopefully - good news!

Cheers, Peter
