Warriors of Wood
Last weekend was the first ever Warriors of Wood contest put on by Ryan Nyquist at the San Jose Pal stadium in California. The event was held with the intention to raise money for a new bike park in San Jose so a lot of the big names in bmx showed up. The set up was a drop to four big technical box jumps all made of wood. Though it was mainly a bmx contest, the other guys were cool with us riding it on our mountain bikes. Out of about 50 riders who signed up, Brian Miller and I were the only two mountain bikers but they didn’t care about it and we were authorised to participate. I didn't think that there was any way to make it to the main show and therefore I would only hang out and ride with some sick riders but then after my two qualifying runs I was tied for 10th place together with Patrick Casey. They were only taking ten to the finals so we did a head to head best of two runs in order to find out who would take the final spot. I ended up sticking my first run but messing up my second so Patrick took the final spot. At first I was pretty hesitant to go out and ride but I'm stoked I did. The final results were
1st - TJ Ellis 93.00
2nd - Anthony Napolitan 92.42
3rd - Mike "Hucker" Clark 91.25
4th - Alan Cooke 90.25
5th - Cam White 90.25
6th - Ryan Nyquist 89.17
7th - Alistair Whitton 88.17
8th - Rob Darden 80.83
9th - Patrick Casey 78.00
10th - Ben Voyles 0.00
See ya,
