All 4000m peaks at age 25
Swiss Michi Lerjen made it! On 10 September 2011 he and his father, accompanied by a few selected guests, climbed the Jungfrau, making Lerjen the youngest mountain guide to have completed all 4000 meter peaks in the Alps.
However, this record was never really planned. Michi Lerjen's focus were always his clients.
Born on 21 September 1985 in Zermatt, Switzerland, he grew up in an Alpine environment and was affected by his father Urs's enthusiasm for mountain sports. At age 11 he accompanied his father onto the Matterhorn, completing his first ever 4000 meter peak. This is how Michi Lerjen's mountaineering career started.
When he was 18 he was the youngest European to stand on an 8000 meter tall mountain without artificial oxygen - the Nanga Parbat in the Western Himalayas.
In the same year he decided to start an education as mountain guide, to ultimately follow in his ancestors' footsteps, who have kept this tradition for five generations. Especially Michi's grandfather, who has an admirable tour repertoire, encouraged him to become a mountain guide, too.
It has always been this "incredible honesty of the mountains and the deep satisfaction after the tours", that drove Michi to live his passion.
After countless Alpine mountain and climbing tours with clients all over the Alpine regions, Michi accomplished the fastest ever climb and descent of the Matterhorn, clocking 2 hours and 33minutes.
Following his grandfather's footsteps, Michi climbed more and more 4000 meter peaks with clients and friends. The number rose. One day he realized that he had climbed almost all 4000 meter peaks as mountain guide, some even several times. An in September he reached his 82nd summit in the Alps.
Since Michi's focus has always been on his guests, the record never really mattered. "Mountains are not there to set new records. You must respect them at all times, but it's great to accomplish your personal goals", he always said.
But now, at the age of 25, he suddenly became ambitious to become the youngest mountaineer to have climbed all 4000 meter peaks in the Alps. And completed his mission successfully. "Thanks to all who supported me, my family, Denise, adidas and every single one of my friends. Without you I would have never made it!"
